New paper on RMSEA cutoff usage

On Friday April 25th, Paul Barrett advised the SEMNET Listerv of a recent publication of Chen et al. 2008 called “An empirical evaluation of the use of fixed cutoff points in RMSEA test statistic in structural equation models” published in “Sociological Methods and Research“.

Jul./Aug. 2008, Berlin, Germany: AMOS-Summer-Workshops at Freie Universität Berlin

In July and August 2008, the Department for Professional Training offers two 4-day workshops in Structural Equation Modeling using AMOS 7.0. The workshops will be held in German language.

  1. Workshop-Programm “Schätzung linearer Strukturgleichungsmodelle mit AMOS 7.0: Einführung”
    28th July-31th August 2008
  2. Workshop-Programm: “Analyse von Paneldaten: Autoregressions- und Wachstumskurvenmodelle mit AMOS 7.0″
    4th August-7th August 2008

Instructors:

Registration: Georg Schumacher (Department for Professional Training, FU Berlin)

Nov. 2008, Oslo, Norway: Introduction to Structural Equation Modeling

Dates: 19-23 and 26-29 November 2007
Time:
09.15 – 15.00
Room: PC-undervisningsrom V102 på Psykologisk institutt
Course leader:
Professor Knut A. Hagtvet , Department of Psychology
Credig points : The students will earn 2,5 credit points for participating in the class included required exercises. The student will earn additional 2,5 credit points for submitting an acceptable paper with reference to the course topics.

Course description : The course will include lectures, practical exercises in spesifying, estimating and testing models by means of the program LISREL 8.70. The course introduces methodologies in analyzing latent variables. The following topics will be included:

  • “The latent variable paradigm”
  • Confirmatory factor analysis
  • Complete structural model
  • MIMIC-models
  • Assesment of model fit
  • Longitudinal models
    • Recursive models
    • Factor models (primary ans second-order) in longitudinal designs
    • Latent variable growth curve modelling
  • Multi-sample analysis

It is suggested that the participants has completed the course Measuring and analyzing constructs in psychological research which is offered in May. However this suggestion is not a necessary prerequisite for attending the SEM class.

Mai 2008, Oslo, Norway: Workshop “Structural Equation Modeling with LISREL”

Norwegian School of Management, BI Oslo in Cooperation with Scientific Software, May 6-8, 2008

In recent years, structural equation modeling (SEM) has developed into a well-known and well-established statistical tool in the social and behavioral sciences. The workshop will cover modern statistical methods for factor analysis and SEM models. The emphasis will be on the use of the methodology of structural equation modeling as a research tool in practical applications. A wide range of topics within SEM analysis will be covered during the three day workshop.

For more detailed information about the schedule and topics: http://www.ssicentral.com/temp/SEM_Workshop_Oslo_May2008.pdf

The workshop also includes supervised practical training on how to use the LISREL program and perform structural equation modeling.

To register for the workshop, please go to the following address: http://event.bi.no/SEM2008/
