Local citations or NAPS are extremely important ranking factors in the eyes of Google for ranking local websites.
There might be 10s or hundreds of local businesses in a specific area, all with similar websites, similar content and providing a similar service. If we take the SEO of a local area. There might be 50 or even 100 competing pages that want to rank for “seo company location”, for example “SEO company Cardiff” or “SEO Company Swindon“. Both are highly sort after keywords to rank for, but if you have the same on-page seo as someone else, how will you ever have any chance of ranking for these keywords without our old friend – The Backlink.
Well the truth is you need Citations, and lots of them!
NAPS stands for Name, address and Phone. These are the 3 things you need listed on other websites to ensure your business will begin to rank organically (and also in the Google maps results.) There are a number of websites you can submit your NAP too. The most definitive list is here. Below is a cool image of tons of NAPs I’ve used to help my websites rank in the SERPs, you might be able to use these to help you too.
So how many NAPs will it take to rank?
Well this is another question similar to: “how long does SEO take?” It’s such an open ended question and its impossible to tell. Everyone is different and its almost impossible to know for sure.
If your a local seo expert you should already have a list of at least 50 NAPs you can go and generate for clients that come on-board with you.
